r. Tricia Braxton has called Clark County, Nevada, her home for over 21 years. Leveraging her professional and community experiences, she promotes improving student success in and out of the classroom, attracting and retaining qualified educators, and enhancing school safety. As a senior coordinator at the University of Nevada, Reno Extension, Dr. Braxton cultivates strategic partnerships to enrich classroom instruction through hands-on learning. Before moving west, Dr. Braxton lived in New York, where she was born and raised. As a New Yorker, she served her community as a New York City police officer, which deepened her understanding of positive community engagement intricately aligned with community values. Dr. Braxton obtained her undergraduate degree from Howard University and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is committed to fostering safe, thriving learning environments for all. Dr. Braxton is honored to serve as an ELECTED member of the Nevada State Board of Education for District 1, having earned the trust and support of her community with a decisive victory in 2024. She is a member of fraternal, service, and professional organizations, including: ● Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society ● National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. ● Alumni Associations of Howard and the University of Nevada Las Vegas ● Las Vegas Area Council Scouting America- Nevada and Arizona Chapter Dr. Braxton remains deeply connected to the concerns of young people by engaging with her two daughters (dynamic young women in their 20s) and other youth in the community to discuss the issues that matter most to them. Dr. Braxton’s Amplifying Youth Voices workshops empower youth to engage in civic life. She also adds that she and her fiancé make a dynamic duo, and she looks forward to their next vacation together!
